Our Story

Where it all started...

Oakdale was founded in 1902 as a primarily Swedish immigrant congregation at 8801 South Normal on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. Rev. Dr. Willie B. Jemison was called as the congregations first African American pastor in 1970. In 2000 Pastor Jemison retired and   the Rev. D. Darrell Griffin was called to lead the congregation as it's next senior pastor.

Expanding the vision...

In 1982, due to an explosion of growth Oakdale moved to its current location at 9440 S Vincennes Ave. to better serve the surrounding community. In 1992, Oakdale Christian Academy was formed to supply a quality Christian education to the community.

Where we are headed...

Oakdale is always expanding our ministries to better serve the body of Christ and the world. Always keeping in mind the charge given in Matthew 28:19, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit."
